Review

This is official description

PDFCreator is an easy to use windows application and has a simple interface so that even the novice users can use this software with ease.
PDFCreator easily creates PDFs from any Windows program. Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application.

The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 0.9

PDF creator is a tool for creating PDF documents from within any Windows application that offers the possibility to print a created document. This application is installed as a virtual printer that produces a PDF version of an input document. When you choose the print command in your host application, you get to chose the PDFCreator as the target printer, for it to create the PDF document. The application can run on a remote server, too, where multiple users can work from a same folder of files.

You are also able to set security parameters of the produced document: permissions to access, change/modify the document, print it, copy the text, etc. Inclusion of a digital signature will ensure your ownership.

Documents can be emailed directly from the application. You can also create archived files with embedded fonts, if you need to store the document for a long time. Apart from PDF files, it is possible to convert documents into images in one of the many formats that include PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP, PCX, as well as PS and EPS documents.

The whole interface is a simple table-like window that lists the files being processed, much like the printer queue you could expect to see. Two toolbars provide support for the converter operations and email-related actions.
  • Creates images and other format file besides PDF.
  • Can generate PDF/A documents.
  • Can be run on a remote server.
  • No obvious ones.

Pros: Create a "PDF" file for free
Cons: None, really.
Comment: I have read several "comments" about file versions and the one I downloaded today is "1.2.1". The reason I am even posting a comment here is to warn you. On one page you'll see the "PDFCreator" logo to click to download. Be carefull what web site it takes you to. If it takes you to a site called FoxTab, do NOT download the file. It is a virus. It will hide various folders and delete others while flashing a warning, telling you they can fix it for a fee. A simple examination will confirm. The file that FoxTab has is 512K. It is not an installer and there is no way you are going to convert to a PDF with such a small program. The reall program is 17.5 MB (18,386,944 bytes). Use common sense about the size a program should be, and please, stay away from FoxTab. This is not a vendetta against them.

Latest version is 102. Be careful with version 101 ! It brings a virus in its
setup file. Regards

Good tool, but two drawbacks make me use it less than before :
- picture compression is awfull, even if put the settings to no compression
- does not keep the hyperlinks as PDF allows to.
If your facing this two problems:
- with Ms Word documents, use Open Office's Write instead ; it generates perfect PDFs docs from .doc documents.
- with web pages, use firefox with the Mozilla Archive Format or UnMHT extension (I cannot recall) it keeps an exact copy of the web page with absolutes links and same picture (you can always pdf it later if you wish)
